Join us every Saturday as we feature a store in the Lake Geneva area! Get the scoop behind the unique shops throughout Walworth County, and find out what makes them stand above the rest.
This week, we interviewed Karin Bennett from Cornerstone Shop & Gallery in downtown Lake Geneva. If you’ve ever shopped in downtown Lake Geneva, chances are you’ve stopped in this beautiful home decor & gift store. With 10,000 sq. feet of gifts, art, clothing, home decor, and more, this unique store offers something for everyone (our favorite is the amazing aroma of their candle ‘room!’). Read on to find out more about this iconic Lake Geneva shop.
Q: How did you get your start in Lake Geneva?
A: We opened Artopia Shop & Gallery in Lake Geneva in 2004. Artopia featured American artisan jewelry, glass, ceramics, and exotic woods and custom furniture. We were looking for a location to expand, and purchased the Cornerstone Shoppe (as it was formerly known) in 2007.
Q: How did you choose the name “Cornerstone Shop & Gallery?”
A: The store was established in 1988 as The Cornerstone Shoppe. We changed the name to Cornerstone Shop & Gallery when we purchased the business and merged Artopia into this location. We still carry an extensive array of artisan items, as well as original art and prints from local artists.
Q: What kind of items/gifts can we find in your store?
A: We feature 10,000 square feet of home accessories and accent pieces; furniture and décor; baby and wedding gifts; women’s clothing, jewelry and accessories; fine linens and tableware, including Casafina, Juliska and Vietri stoneware, Simon Pearce hand blown glass, and decorative and functional metalware by Mariposa, Julia Knight and Beatriz Ball; artisan items and original art; as well as cards and gifts for all occasions, books, Lake Geneva and nautical items, and more.
Q: What sets you apart from the competition?
A: We are a lifestyle destination. Our every-changing gift and home décor selections and artistic displays are designed to spark your creativity and inspire your imagination! We pride ourselves on our unique merchandise selections and personalized service.
Q: What’s happening at the store – do you have any events/specials coming up?
A: Nationally known Illustrator and Lake Geneva native Neal Aspinall will be in for a print signing on May 23rd, and Renowned Artist William Nelson is joining us on July 4th. We’re hosting a cookie decorating demo and tea tasting on June 6th in conjunction with Lake Geneva Restaurant Week, and have a Garnier-Thiebaut Trunk Show scheduled for June 20th. Other exciting summer events are being finalized now; visit our website at www.cornerstoneshoppe.com for the latest store news, specials and upcoming events.
Q: Everything in your store is beautiful…but what is the “must have” item from Cornerstone Shop?
A: Tabletop, entertaining pieces and candles are popular year-round, as well as gift selections. Lake Geneva and nautical items are popular with the summer crowd, and holiday décor is our top seller in the fall. (Their holiday displays are BEAUTIFUL – if you haven’t checked them out in the Christmas season, make sure you do this year!)
Q: Do you ship, and can people order from your store online?
A: Yes, we ship to customers across the country, and offer online shopping for a variety of products. Our e-commerce offerings are just a small portion of what’s available in the store, but we add new items regularly.
Q: Do you offer gift wrapping?
A: Complimentary gift wrapping is available.
Q: Where can we find Cornerstone Shop & Gallery?
A: We’re located in the heart of downtown Lake Geneva, at 214 Broad Street (the corner of Broad and Main Streets). We open at 9:30 am seven days a week. Current hours are until 6 pm Mon.-Thurs., 7 pm Fri. & Sat., and 5 pm Sun., but we will be switching to summer hours soon. Check our website for updates.
