October is here, and I could not be more excited to share all the Halloween activities that are happening all over Walworth County! There are so many things to share, that some of our 31 days are double, toil and trouble; so keep your eyes peeled ūüĎÄ. October is officially here, and that means it’s time for 31 DAYS OF HALLOWEEN!

Happy October everyone! ¬†This month is full of great Halloween events, haunted attractions, and fall festivals, so we’ve put together a “sampling” of these great events going on this month. ¬†For a complete list of events, visit our Events Calendar.

Learn about Death & Dying in the Victorian Era on October 4 & 18. ¬†Visit Black Point Estate, a Queen Anne Victorian Summer Cottage built in 1888 on Geneva Lake for ‚ÄúDeath and Dying in the Victorian Era.‚ÄĚ This program will feature a presentation on Victorian funeral and mourning customs, a first floor house tour, and narrated lake boat tour of maritime mishaps on the Geneva Lake Cruise Line. ¬†The presentation will be provided by Black Point Estate staff and volunteers.¬†Cost is $40/person. ¬†Call (262) 248-1888 for details or visit their website.deathanddying

  8. Don a pair of lederhosen for Lake Geneva‚Äôs 22nd annual Oktoberfest this weekend (October 12-13). ¬†Family Fall Festival includes music magic and the Great Pumpkin Giveaway. Scare yourself silly at Dr. Scary’s Haunted House at Jellystone Park in Fort Atkinson on Friday & Saturday nights, now through November 2.  Your adventure starts by entering Dr. Scary’s new, larger haunted house. Take a Haunted Hayride & Trail Walk at Wild Wood Park in Darien on October 26th. ¬†Sponsored by Darien EMS, Darien Fire Department, and Darien Family Connections, the Haunted Trail will run from 4:30pm to 9:00pm. ¬†4:30pm – 6:00pm will be the “family orientated” time, and 7:00pm- 9:00pm will be the scary time. Cost of trail is $2 per person. Hay Rides from 5-8 p.m for $3 (adults) and $2 (kids). There will be hot dogs, chips, and beverage available.
  12. Find your pumpkin now for the Boo in the Bay Pumpkin Race in Williams Bay at Barrett Memorial Library on October 26. ¬†Starting at 11:30am, this pumpkin race is one event you don’t want to miss! ¬†The Boo Crew will be on hand to assist with wheel mounts, and there are races for all ages. ¬†Make your own wheel set or reserve one through the Rec Dept for $10 deposit. ¬†Donations are welcome. ¬†Food and prize tickets will be available for purchase. ¬†Live music, food, and an award ceremony! ¬†For more information, go to their website or call (262) 245-2720.
  13. Smash pumpkins with the 3rd annual Pumpkin Drop at Lake Geneva Canopy Tours on October 25-31. All guests zipping on the canopy tour will be armed with a pumpkin before they soar down the Dual Racing Zip Line. Those that have the best aim and hit the bulls-eye will receive a prize.   15. Dress the kids up for the Youth Halloween Party at Downtown Armory in Whitewater on October 26.  Join them for fun fair games and prizes geared for preschool and elementary age children. Admission into this event is a non-perishable food item to be donated to the local food pantry.   17. Party with the town of Delavan at their Halloween Party on October 27 at Community Park.  From 3-5pm, there will be hayrides, magic tricks, games, a costume contest, snacks/candy, JD Buggs the Clown, face paining, and more!  Stop by Community Park to join the fun.

Stop by downtown Elkhorn for their 8th annual Oktoberfest celebration on October 19. ¬†Walk around the downtown square to see over 130 crafters and vendors showcasing handcrafted items, antiques, produce and plants, home party consultants and more.¬†Head over to the north parking lot of the Government Center to see some beautiful classic cars during our Oktoberfest Car Show. The kids will have plenty to keep them occupied with games, pumpkin decorating, bounce house, slides and more.¬†Hungry? Grab a bite to eat from the many delicious food vendors or chili cook-off. Get spooked at Boo In the Bay Spooky Walk at Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy on October 25 from 6:30pm-9:00pm. ¬†Enjoy the Enchanted Forest Family Walk (suitable for all ages) or the Haunted Spooky Walk (4th grade and older), plus a bonfire, s’mores, ghost stories, singing pumpkins, music, food, prizes & games.   22. Attend Scare on the Square in downtown Elkhorn at Veteran’s Park on October 26. ¬†Kids can enjoy an obstacle course, drawing booth, costume contest, storytelling, giveaways and much more! The first 200 children will receive a pumpkin! ¬†Enter a drawing for one iPad and a 42 in. screen TV giveaway!!!
