Burlington Ice Festival: Wisconsin State Ice Carving Competition

Burlington is host to the Wisconsin State Ice Carving Competition this Saturday.  Over a dozen 300-pound ice blocks will be placed throughout Wehmhoff Square Park.  The live sculpture carving showcases ice carvers using hand tools as they transform the massive blocks of ice into an array of giant masterpieces.  Along with the ice carving, you can take a horse-drawn wagon ride, see live reindeer, visit Santa in the Chalet, and so much more.  Activities running from 9 am – 5 pm.  Best part, this festival is free.

Opening Weekend at The Mountain Top

The Mountain Top

We are blessed in Walworth County to have plenty of cross country ski trails when we finally get some fluffy white stuff.  But if you’re itching to hit the slopes, The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva is opening this Saturday.  Walworth County has two ski resorts (Grand Geneva and Alpine Valley Resort) with plenty of their own snow.  If skiing isn’t your thing – you can also sled at Grand Geneva, or enjoy the winter wonderland from the Ski Lodge – great food paired with a warm fire and warm drinks, or maybe a cold one if you want.  Don’t forget to watch for the ice rinks around Walworth County to open too!

The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker

A holiday tradition, The Nutcracker is being performed at Young Auditorium at UW-Whitewater on Saturday at noon.  This performance is by the area youth from The Dance Factory.  If you don’t know the story, a young German girl dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King.  If you haven’t been to see a show at Young Auditorium, please make plans to do so.  This is a wonderful venue with world renowned performances right here in our own backyard.
