15 Summer Activities for $15 or Less

Zoom School is out for the summer!  With so many changes in our summer plans, its time to think about keeping your kiddos busy and entertained in the dog days of summer.  Never fear – we’ve got your back! We’ve come up with a list of fun-filled family activities for less than $15 a person.  Time to build your summer bucket list for maximum fun:

Go On the Delavan Walldog’s Scavenger Hunt: From its prudent beginnings, through Delavan’s Circus age, to modern day, the murals tell our town’s story in a way words cannot. And while you’ve certainly seen them, have you ever taken a closer look? We invite you to take the Walldog Mural Tour and participate in the Walldog Scavenger Hunt. Put your seeking skills to the test and match each clue to the mural numbers on the map and be entered to win an exciting prize or Delavan Walldogs Kids T-Shirt.  Download the clues and get to hunting!

Cast A Line at Rushing Waters Fishery: Open year-round, this is a great place for kids to learn how to fish – and it’s educational.  Rent a pole and purchase bait on-site.  With no entrance fee or fishing license required, this is a great budget-friendly day!

Cost: $9.50 Cleaning Fee per Pound

Try Out a Game Of Disc Golf: Get outdoors and engage in a little family competition with a game of Disc Golf at Duck Pond Disc Course.  Don’t know how to play? No problem! Its as easy as mini golfing! Don’t forget your frisbees!

Visit Farmers Markets:  Teach your kids about their fruits and veggies on an outing to the Farmers Markets.  Pick out local ingredients to make fresh family meals together in the kitchen.  Who knows, this could even become your weekly tradition.  Learn more about Walworth County Farmers Markets here.

Summer Reading and Activities: School may be over for the summer, but learning never stops.  Take part in digital programming from Aram Public Library designed for family members of all ages.  Engage in digital sewing classes, the Beanstack Summer Reading Challenge, or Mindfulness sessions all at the tip of your fingertips.  The best part is, its completely free!

Get Up Close and Personal With Furry Friends: Visit the Animal Gardens in Delavan.  Admission gets you into the baby animals barn, outdoor petting zoo, and the exotic bird show!  This beautiful park is home to 16 species of exotic animals and over 60 hay-eating animals.

Cost: Ages 3+ $8, Ticket Upgrades Available For Extra Fee

Take a Trip Back In Time: Visit the Geneva Lake Museum and step into the past.  Walk the brick streets of yesteryear and explore old-fashioned stores plus a fire engine house.  Who knew history could be so fun?!  Great rainy day activity!

Bike White River Trail: Rent a bike (or bring your own) at Pedal & Cup, located on the White River State Trail.  This trail is an easy trail for any level of biking experience.  Grab a bike and hit the trails today! After your ride, grab a scoop of ice cream to cool off.

Go for a Swim: Go jump in the lake! No really! Visit the beaches of Walworth County and make summer a splash.

Get Your Groove On: Catch a free concert in the park at Phoenix Park Bandshell in Delavan most Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the summer.  Check in often for the most updated show schedules.

Cruise the Lake: Did you know that Kids cruise for only $1 the entire month of June at Lake Geneva Cruise Lines? Hop aboard and see Lake Geneva from a whole new perspective. Book your voyage today!

Plant a Summer Garden: Take a trip out to Northwind Perennial Farms where you can pick out a garden’s worth of beautiful flowers! Create your gardenscape right in your own back yard and watch it bloom with love.

Cost: Plants range from $3 – $30

Paddle the Day Away: Treat the kiddos to a day on the lake with kayak rentals from Lakeside Bait and Tackle in Delavan.  For just $10 you can rent a kayak with life jackets for a two hour adventure.

“Wearin’ o’ the Green” for St. Patrick’s Day in Walworth County

Everyone’s a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day…! Walworth County is no different, so come celebrate with a variety of ways to show off your green attire, while enjoying the ever popular corned beef & cabbage, shamrock cupcakes, and a mug or two of green beer, plus a few other surprises mixed in.

Start early and get yourself ready for the big day, as on Sunday, March 12, the Delavan Lions Club will once again be serving up their annual St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner at the Village Supper Club (1725 S. Shore Drive, Delavan) from 11:30am to 7pm. Expect all the trimmings with this, from succulent corned beef, sweetly steamed cabbage, Irish potatoes, carrots, horseradish, baked chicken, to fresh rye bread with butter. Adults $12 / Children ages 6-12 $6 / Children ages 5 and under Free. Going 54 years strong, this is an annual event not to be missed!

Another early temptation on Sunday, March 12, is Irish Fest at Hawk’s View Golf Club (7377 Krueger Road, Lake Geneva). Corned beef, cabbage and carrots, as well as baked chicken, will whet your appetite for all things Irish, while being entertained by the Evan & Tom Leahy Band and the Trinity Irish Dancers. Adults $15 / Seniors $12. Something to tempt all the senses and it’s never too early to get your Irish on!

Looking for an entire weekend of green? Lake Lawn Resort (2400 E. Geneva Street, Delavan) has plenty of it planned for the holiday weekend! Friday, March 17 through Sunday, March 19, they will offer all things Irish from breakfast through to dinner. Start with O’Malley’s Breakfast Skillet, then corned beef & cabbage for lunch, a Creme de Menthe Andes Candies Chocolate Mint Cupcake as an afternoon treat, and Guinness-braised lamb shank with all the trimmings finishes it off for dinner. There’s sure to be something green in a mug found later on in the evening as well!

Celebrate shamrocks and shenanigans during Crafted Americana’s St. Patrick’s Day specials from Friday, March 17 through Saturday, March 18. From lunch offerings of Irish poundies, Guinness fish & chips, and reuben sandwiches, to dinner plates of traditional corned beef & cabbage, shepherd’s pie and bangers & mash, you’re sure to find something Irish to your liking! Late night from 10p to midnight, top off the day with reuben sliders. Put on your green and make the scene at Crafted Americana, at The Ridge (W4240 Highway 50, Lake Geneva).

Popeye’s is setting aside their usual All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry on Friday, March 17, for their favorite celebration of the year – St. Patrick’s Day. Specials start at $3.99, with corned beef & cabbage starting at $5.99 and offering three portion sizes to choose from. There’s no excuse to not get enough here, and Popeye’s guarantees green beer and lots o’ fun!
