Honoring Mom this Mother’s Day

Mother's Day keep calm

Last minute notification of needing money or  having to bring a treat to school. Forgetting the permission slip at home that has to be turned in right now. Two bags of laundry brought home from college. The car broke down on the side of the road. In bed, but awake, until you hear the front door open and close. Just a few examples of things that happen as a mom. Makes you wonder why there’s only one Mother’s Day a year! With all that Walworth County has to offer for ways to make Mom feel special, there should be more than one day.
Let’s get to it, as Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 13.
With the weather finally not looking like winter any more, how about getting out in nature at Camp Timber-Lee with Mom. Stay overnight Friday, May 11, and enjoy a snack, campfire, hayride and stargazing. Then on Saturday, May 12, enjoy a day that includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus activities galore, like nature hikes, boating, archery, farm animals, tower climb, high ropes, animal encounter, creation experience, and a family photo shoot. Sounds like a great way to take a step back, relax and have fun hanging out with Mom.

For a little more sedate and refined, Cornerstone Shop has a Mother’s Day Tea-tasting Party on Saturday, May 12. Practice the pinkies up move while sampling a variety of teas for spring and learning about each of them! Enjoy a Lizzy James Trunk Show, with Mom getting a special goody bag if she’s one of the first 50 to purchase a Lizzy James item (or you purchase a Lizzy James item for Mom).

Mother’s Day itself, Sunday, May 13, is filled with choices of what to do! Does Mom golf? If so, get out to Hawk’s View Golf Club or Grand Geneva Resort, where Mom plays free and you then follow up the round of golf with brunch. If the golf course isn’t Mom’s thing, then how about a Bird Hike? Start the morning at Beulah Bog State Natural Area for a leisurely walk full of bird songs and sights. Test Mom’s escape skills at the Lake Geneva Clue Room where she gets in free as part of a group of 4. Mom will also get an Anderson’s chocolate treat and a flower. Celebrate other remarkable women, those of Geneva Lake, while taking a voyage with the Lake Geneva Cruise Line to Black Point Estate. The narrated tour will focus on many of the women that have lived along the shore of Geneva Lake, including a tour of Black Point Estate and learning about the women there. Added fun – mimosas will be served at Black Point Estate before returning to the ship! Another option is seeing the ultimate show-biz musical, “42nd Street”, being performed at The Fireside Theatre. With two performances on Sunday, one at 10:30 am and the other at 2:30 pm, a great meal and a great show are easy to choose. Rosewood also offers a great meal and a great show, with their ‘Legends & Love Songs’ show and brunch. There are two brunch seatings, 11:30 am and 1 pm, with the show at 2 pm.

When it comes to Mother’s Day brunches, buffets, and dinner the choices are amazing!
